Ed founded B.E.M Sales and Marketing in 1987. Born and raised in New Jersey, he spent the majority of his career in the Metro NY and Northeast Markets. Ed's 24 years of experience prior to founding B.E.M included positions as National Sales Manager at Swift & Company and Tyson Foods. While transforming a direct sales force into a broker network for Tyson Foods, Ed recognized a distinct need for a strong Sales and Marketing Company with perishable experience that would concentrate solely on perishable meat and deli lines. In April 1987, Ed left Tyson Foods to form such a company. He is proud to say that the letters B.E.M. stand for his 3 children and his inspiration Betsy, Edwin, and Michael. Ed's initial team included Jean Holian and Larry Stephens. Eventually this strong group of three grew in numbers to become one of the most exemplary Broker teams in the region. In 1996, Mark Manes, a 24 year veteran of the food industry came on board. Ed's team continued to grow to include his sons Ed Jr. and Michael who joined their father in 1992 and 1997 respectively, and Larry's son Skip who also joined the team in 1996.
In 1988, Ed seized an opportunity to expand into the Upstate New York area and hired Kym Raimo to head the Albany office. In the following years, the Albany team has attracted a group of talented sales representatives and retail personnel. With the addition of John McGraw in 2001, the Albany Team has experienced tremendous growth by utilizing John's 25 years of experience and the relationships he has established throughout the industry.
